Truck Load Division Ripe for Organizing

UPS Freight Teamsters around the country wonder why the UPS Freight Truckload Division isn't part of the union.

Now that the clerks have been organized, it seems obvious that the TL section of the UPS Freight workforce would be the next target to bring into our union.

After all, the slogan for organizing at UPS has been "one company, one union" and these TL drivers can be seen in UPS Freight tractors and that's the logo on their paychecks.

If you're a UPS Freight TL driver, we want to know your story and the issues you face.

For years I have heard guys in truckload, and I am one of them, complain about our low pay. We get no pay for hook up. If delayed we don't get payed until after 2hrs. No pay for fueling, No pay anything but miles from point A to B, and even that is a lie because we don't get paid actual miles like most companies do today. LTL is in the middle of renegotiating their contract. Truckload its time for us stand up and be heard. We need to stand up and let UPS Freight know that we are part of this company also. We can no longer bow down and take it. The time is right. LTL Union/The Mechanics Union/The Dock Workers Union and now The Clerks Union. We have to stop being afraid! And all of you LTL guys, you can help us also by talking about us at you Locals, let your locals no that the Truckload section needs to be with the union also because it will make you stronger. Now you on the LTL side might say "How can Truckload help us"? Well for the the past four years myself and 9 other Truckload guys have been pulling LTL Freight from LTL Yards running it from Southern Cal to Northern Cal. Now most of the LTL guys I have spoken to say they would rather see Truckload pulling their freight rather than subcontractors. But as a question put to all of my brothers and sisters on the LTL side. "What do you think the company would try to do with Truckload if your side decided walk out one day for whatever reason? They would try to use us against you. Now would I step across that line no. And their are many others that would not. But as you Know some don't care. Would their be enough to fill your area? No, we have few thousand drivers across the country but not enough. But that's now. What about in the future? Right now Truckload is hiring new drivers across the country. We need to be Union! We need to be Union! Everyone reading this let them know the the Truckload Division needs to be part of the Brotherhood!!!!

I haul Dedicated "Auto Parts" average 3-4 stops. Is that really a "TRUCKLOAD" Seems to me to be a Less-Than-Truckload. We have to learn the retarded seeing habits & commentary like yall. All the while walking on egg shells of being fired & that they have "300 applicants wanting your job". We need IBT, & we need them bad.

I do similar work out of Front Royal, VA. We can't keep drivers for the pay package UPS offers. Its below the national rate @ $12.00 dollars per stop.

The drivers here are treated like siht and I am always being threaten to be fired if i rock the boat or complain to hr. Did 1 time and was put at the bottom of their call list and set the parking lot all week with no runs and no pay...........but to be far on thursday i did get a run...... 11 hours in the opposite direction of my home i was free to go to after my delivers were made. Not only did it take me well out of my way home it cut my 34 hour clock in half and was told maybe next time youll remember who dishes out the loads. To date that i know of 2/27/13. 16 drivers have been fired or suspened for log violations that they must make i order to deal with micro management they do....you have 7 hours of driving time they give a run that takes 9 but the. Computer says 7 so you better do it or else youll be punished by being put at end of the list. I argue look that computer doent stop for stop lights it goes the speed limit never stops for food and restroom breaks. There is noway i can be there without running out of time........reply? Well you better be there or youll piss rich and you know how he is so.

I am very sorry for your troubles. I can only pray that the proper people who see this will organize you too. The contract LTL has is ok, but it has a lot of improvement needed in the language to make it stronger so it will help people like you. Get involved, get educated and support your local union.

Please continue to do right in your driving habits and you will never be wrong. I too have been attacked by management on the LTL side, it is just part of the game to see who they can push around. I kept a journal on my computer of dates and time of complaints and listed the details of that particular tour of duty in question for future reference and once I got enough of these facts and had had enough of the intimidation I sent it to HR and Union hall. It was handled with success, but the battle goes on.

I pray that UPS starts to create harmony with better leadership than what they have shown so far, remember they are scared for their job too, more than likely they are just doing what they are being told. It will take a good President/CEO to implement this change. IT IS POSSIBLE.

I was told back in 2006 that I could transfer to LTL if I work one year in "Truckload". That was a lie, and now I have to quit and hope to get hired by LTL. I will lose all of my benefits if I quit. This can't be right. I hauled LTL loads from North Atlanta to Jacksonville on weekends and I still get treated like a step child when I reach the terminals.

Please do not worry about who or what is being republished or broadcasted by any medium, JUST WORRY ABOUT DOING WHAT IS RIGHT FOR THE MEMBERS, and everything else will be OK. You can never be wrong in doing right.

I am very thankful for the progress being made with the contract for UPS Freight LTL division and can only hope that the 100's of years of experience that is represented in the Teamsters with the National Master Freight Agreement can be shared with the UPSF agreement and implemented. UPSF needs help before they destroy theirself.

I do however appreciate the words of encouragement for the memebers not to speak negative words but positive words over the up and coming contract agreement for the sake of the competition wanting our customers. We need to have some common sense in this area so we can help ours sales people not hurt them.

God Bless
